The philosopher Chaïm Perelman presented, in this article, the pivot on which his theory of the new rhetoric will be based.

it is constituted, first of all, by the need to make a break with the discourse of saussurean structural linguistics from which all the linguistic structures of philosophy are composed and elaborated ; logic ; rhetoric and the social sciences, and on which depend all together theoretical models of the fabrication and production of human knowledge ; and faculties of cognition and reasoning.

however, we will be able to achieve-according to Perelman-“a break with a conception of reason and reasoning, stemming from Descartes, which has left its mark on western philosophy of the last three centuries”.
