Orientalism was defined as being concerned with the study of heritage texts that are rich in Arab libraries.

they constitute a mirror that reflects the peoples' living patterns, the events they went through and the ideas that they gave, whether on the literary, political, social, cultural or religious levels.

the heritage texts are the pillar of the nation, the means of its continuation and the eternity of its civilization, because it is considered a document of identity and belonging, and the French orientalists have been keen to study everything related to Algeria since its occupation of the Arabic language, dialects, history, revolutions, travels, translations, belief.

they lived closely with people to get to know their lifestyle and way of thinking, so they were interested in folklore, or the so-called popular culture, in both its tangible and intangible parts, so many of them took on the task of field work and collecting various forms of folk literature, because it is a door to understanding the mentality of Algerian society, and in this intervention we will try to present the efforts of some French orientalists in treating and resurrecting the Algerian popular culture.
