Abstract EN

Conflicts do not only lead to immediate human suffering, but they also give rise to a set of latent and manifest security threats that spread over a larger space once the violent conflict subsides.

this article aims at exploring and identifying the impact of internal conflict epicenters on security threats’ engenderment and aggravation using a comparative method.

this study demonstrated that the impact of conflict epicenters on threat engenderment is manifested in three essential effects.

firstly, considering the internal conflict epicenters as lawless structural systems with the absence of transparency and deterrence, they become favorable environments to attract threatened entities and facilitate their activity and legitimacy building in an inconsistent way with state law.

secondly, due to their systemic characteristics, internal repercussions of conflict epicenters lead to weakening the central core that monopolizes legitimate violence and provoke a dynamic degradation of government efficiency at all levels ; particularly security, judicial and economic ones.

this second effect emerged from two dynamics : the first is engendering greater potential for chaos, and the second is provoking the internal security dilemma.

lastly, chaotic contexts afford opportunities to threatened entities to build value and symbolic systems based upon violent conflict ideas among populations under their control.
