Abstract EN

Drug addiction is a complex psychosocial phenomenon with dangerous proportions that has overshadowed all societies of all classes, until it has become a familiar behavior for many, practiced by many young people openly, and in many ways, and this was not limited to the category of males, the rich or the criminals as is customary, but rather extended reaching the female sex, in addition to the poor, even the educated and the qualified.

It has become the first destination to which different segments of the world go in general and the Algerian society in particular, desiring to discover or escape from a bitter reality in which they live, and between this and that there are many reasons and the motives differ from one person to another, so we will try through this study to reveal the motives of addiction among the Algerian youth As well as its results, whether in the short or long term Through a study on a sample including a sample including 100 addicts (males and females), using semi directed research questioners and statistical method to reach accurate facts on the studied topic.

As a result, some important points were reached, including the following: The most commonly used drugs by Algerian youth are kef (hashish) followed by hallucinogenic tablets.

As for addiction motives, the pressures of life such as unemployment, poverty and the housing crisis were the main, followed by emptiness, desire for adventure and discovery.

Finally, we can limit the addiction effects on Algerian youths, particularly in anxiety and stress, mental and intellectual disorders such as forgetfulness and poor concentration, in addition to adopting behaviors socially unacceptable, unstable family relationships, with loss of interest and an inability to socialize
