Abstract EN

After Algeria ratified most of the international conventions and treaties related to the subject of the environment and for the first time in the history of Algerian constitutions and their successive amendments, the constitutional amendment of 2016expressly states the rights of future generations within the constitutional bloc.

The right to a sound environment has become a constitutional gain, as it is stated in the preamble to the Constitution that "building a productive and competitive economy within the framework of sustainable development and environmental conservation".

Article 68 of the 1996 Constitution, as amended by Act No.

16/01of the Constitution, stipulates that "citizens have the right to a healthy environment.

The State shall safeguard the environment and the law shall establish the duties of natural and moral persons to protect the environment."
