Abstract EN

The problem of the study revolves around the following main question : what is the role of the family as a social control institution in reducing the phenomenon of cheating among students during their distance learning ? through this question, the researcher aims to find out the social control methods adopted by the family to reduce the phenomenon of cheating during distance education, to reveal the methods of social control that have the strongest impact on students to reduce this phenomenon from the parents’ point of view, and to determine the different methods of social control adopted by the family according to the following variables : parents’ gender, parents’ work, parents’ educational level and the number of children studying in the family.

to achieve these objectives, the researcher has adopted the descriptive analytical approach to reach responses by applying a questionnaire to an available sample of parents in Kuwait, consisting of 76 fathers and mothers (32% females compared to 62% males).

the results reveal that the family plays a role in reducing the behavior of cheating among students while learning remotely through the social control methods : socialization ; Religion ; punishment and reward ; and habits, traditions and customs.

the effect of socialization is the strongest among those methods, and the method of habits, traditions and customs is the weakest.

there is no difference between the methods of social control adopted by the family according to the following variables : parents’ gender, parents’ work, parents’ educational level and the number of children studying in the family
