Abstract EN

This article aims to shed light on the civil endowment transferring situation in the Maldives and explore the jurisprudential impact of neglect and loss of endowment.

There were endowments in Male city, the capital of the Maldives, which were moved to an island in the countryside called ‘A.

A Toddu’ in 1970 by the government.

As a result of some legal systems, civil endowment in the Maldives became almost absent and was cut off from its prime goals and purposes due to being transferred to this rural area.

Therefore, the goals of developing and investing in civil endowment were not achieved and endowment was not further taken care of or developed despite Maldives is an Islamic country.

The absence of institutions and legislation regulating and caring for endowment led to the absence of endowment Culture in the Maldivian society.

The only exception to this is mosques and cemeteries.

The study employs the inductive and analytical approaches.

It concludes that the reason of the transfer of private endowments in Maldives in the seventies was due to some regulations, contrary to the jurisprudence provisions.

There were negative effects due to the endowment transfer for the reasons mentioned above, resulting not only in not activating and investing it, but also people abandon endowment and stop to create new charitable endowments.
