Abstract EN

This article aims to clarify the conditions of Ijtihad according to Imam Altwfi, the author of “sharh mukhtasar Alrawdhah” which is considered the best of Hanbali Books in jurisprudence foundations.

The author expresses his intention in a simple and clear language, enabling the reader to easily understand what is intended.

He tackles any issue supported with necessary opinions, specifying aspects of conflict and preferences far from doctrinal intolerance.

The research studies this phenomenon, collecting Ijtihad conditions according to Imam Altwfi in a way of comparison with foundation scholars’ opinions and conclude with the following: Imam Twfi’s approach is best described as moderate, in that it is possible to be involved in Ijtihad with some moderate conditions which are not hard to possess.

Thus, Imam Twfi makes Ijtihad conditions possible, but never preferred collective benefit over Ijtihad texts, and never meant to drop these texts, as some accused him of.

However, he sometimes misuses or does not use the exact expression to describe an issue, which opens windows to criticize him.
