Abstract EN

This article aims to get to know the effectiveness of (PQ4R) and (SQ3R) strategies in improving the reading comprehension skills of the first year secondary (male) students in English language in Aden governorate.

the researcher employs the quasi experimental approach, where the sample consists of (93) male students divided into three groups from secondary schools.

after that the researcher chooses the first experimental group, (31) students who learned by (PQ4R) strategy, and the second experimental group (31) students who learned by (SQ3R) strategy, and the control group (31) students who learned by the traditional method.

the study tools and instruments are a list of reading comprehension skills test.

the results show significant differences in reading comprehension due to the effectiveness of (PQ4R) and (SQ3R) strategies.

based on the results of study, the researcher recommends training of in–service teachers and student-teachers at faculties of education on using the (PQ4R) and (SQ3R) strategies during the training periods.
