Bejaia is considered one of the oldest cities in North Africa.

Studies and researches have shown that this area was one of the most important centers in ancient history.

It included many caves and ancient sites and the oldest archeological sites of prehistoric human habitation.

It is attractive to the population because it meets the conditions of life such as water, soil fertility and the immunity of its natural areas.

This is what made it a succession of civilizations, most notably the Phoenician civilization, Nomid, Roman, Vandalism, Byzantine and Islamic.

On this basis, we will try in this simple article to shed light on these civilizations that followed the city and the cultural role it played in its prosperity.
