Despite the multiplicity of trends in media research and the use of differenttheories related to the sciences of communication and media, we can notice thedisappearance of the critical trend from academic studies.

Even the studies thatcan be included under this framework, many of them did not refer to the theoryexplicitly, while other studies faced criticism on the claim that the critical approachis not appropriate for media research after the content analysis method dominatesmost academic studies as it is the best method for media studies.

Although therehas been a trend in recent years to use the critical approach in academic research, these attempts remain limited and count on the fingers of the hand.

In this study, we try to address critical trends and their use in media studies, as they deal withthe media phenomenon from a broad side by trying to identify the structure of themedia discourse and its relationship to society and the dominant political discourse.

Critical entries, as Fairclough points out, differ from non-critical approaches in thatthey do not limit themselves to describing discursive practices, but also indicatehow discourse is shaped by power relations and ideologies
