Abstract EN

The Islamic era witnessed a wide scientific renaissance.

the Islamic civilization enriched with a huge legacy of literature in various fields of knowledge.

however, the library of Arabic literature lost an important aspect of it, as it was much beyond the era of the discovery of printing, and only few written numbers remained, in addition to the impact of the wars it witnessed and the destruction of cities and the libraries they contained.

in this study, we are interested in collecting the missing writings of the Physician and Linguist Muwaffaq Al-Din Abdul Latif bin Yusuf Al-Baghdadi, and highlighting their historical importance ; especially that he was famous and had a great scholarly standing.

he resided for long periods in Baghdad, Egypt, the Levant, and Armenia.

he was a witness and participant in the most important events of his era (557-629 AH / 1162-1231 AD).

Abdul Latif Al-Baghdadi authored a book about his autobiography, in which he recorded his views and observations about the most important of his contemporaries of caliphs, sultans, kings, ministers, leaders and scholars.

in his writing, he relied on original documents and eyewitness accounts.

Hence, it became one of the valuable historical works.

his students from the physicians and historians contemporary to him and those who followed him realized its importance.

they quoted from it in their books.

by comparing their writings, it became clear that they agreed in writing the same quote.

therefore, they preserved an important aspect of his writings.

Hence, we found that his contemporary of important events in his time requires an independent study of him that cares about clarifying his vision and method in historical writing, and highlighting the importance of his lost writings, preserved in the pages of Arab sources.

we will show the most important features of his era, his travels that lasted for more than forty years and their impact on his scientific status and political relations, the sources on which he relied, the features of his style in the book, the importance of his criticism, the criticism of ancient historians of him, and the drawbacks of the study on him.

through this, we cite examples of his historical writings.
