The reason why nations care so much about their folklore is that folklore, according to Khalili, is the backbone of any nation’s national identity .

Much of what has happened to the Palestinian people, including the 1948 Nakbeh, was actually aimed at negating their national identity.

The Nakbeh touched not only our country and our land but also our Palestinian National Heritage, with the 1967 war Palestinians became more aware of the attack on their national Heritage.

Since then many institutions concerned with the collection and the preservation of Palestinian folklore have bean established, including the Palestinian Folklore Center which publishes the present journal, although no distinctly Palestinian school of folklore researeh has emerged yet.
