In this edition , Dr.

Shakarneh tries his best to distinguish proverbs from other forms of prose especially aphorisms (wise sayings) which are highly similar to proverbs .

He points out that the main difference lies in the fact that proverbs are community product while aphorisms are the product of individuals .

He then proceeds to detail criteria which he considers capable of freeing a proverb from all other adages .

Finally , Dr.

Shakarneh elaborates on the importance of Palestinian proverbs as popular forms pregnant with wisdoms and experiences inherited from generations of predecessors .
