Abstract EN

The problem of waste in agricultural crops, especially in vegetables and fruits, is one of the most important problems which face the Egyptian agricultural sector, it causes significant loss in Egyptian agricultural and total national agriculture income due to its physical nature and its impact on natural factors compared to other crops.

The loss also causes the waste of agricultural resources such as land, capital, and irrigation water with the current water crisis, which are resources characterized by relative scarcity and limitations in Egyptian agriculture and the Egyptian economy.

It is evident from the results of the economic analysis of the study that the productive loss of the winter potato crop, according to the opinions of the farmers surveyed in the study sample, results from the lack of water (thirst), the damage caused by machinery, the lack of pest and disease control, the harsh and unexpected climatic conditions, the use of low-quality seeds, while marketing losses result from uprooting and collection, sorting and grading, packaging, transportation, storage.

The average total production and marketing losses per feddan for the winter potato crop for the total research sample are 1.32 and 0.52 tons per feddan, respectively, which represents about 12.2% and 4.73% of the average feddan productivity of the total sample, which is about 10.98 tons per feddan.

Thus, the total production and marketing losses per feddan amount to about 1.84 tons per feddan, which represents about 16.76% of the average per feddan productivity.
