Abstract EN

The research tackles a presentation and analysis of a specific record of Waqf (Endowment) records in the Ottoman Archives, which originally recorded the pay- roll allocated to students, teachers and other workers in the Waqf (Endowment) schools (seven schools) in Medina in the year (1258 AH-1842 AD).

He reported documented historical benefits with the names of those schools, their affiliates, and the salary of each of the residents in them, according to teaching, study, or employment.

Students’ salaries were estimated at twenty piasters per month.

As for teachers, forty piasters were allocated to each one of them, and in some schools, sixty piasters.

The record also included the names of students and teachers, and indicated their countries.

It is stamped to confirm the accuracy of the information contained in the list of each school after the school principal and its representative stamped it.

The record also clarified the contribution of these schools to the educational and scientific life in Medina in the second half of the thirteenth century AH, the middle of the nineteenth century AD.

At the same time, it showed the impact of scholars and those seeking knowledge who came from different countries in order to get acquainted with the sources of science and knowledge from the schools of Madinah, as well as the vital and active impact of Awqaf (Endowments) on scientific life.
