This study aims to examine how the French civil status law was applied and the extent of its impact on local identity, thus trying to know the quality of the implications of that, whether on the level of society or on the level of the Algerian family in general and the Tebessien family in particular.

before entering the French colonization of Algeria, the names of the Algerians carried a series of fathers, tribe, and place, where the nominal system was similar to that in force in all Arab countries, however, in 1882, he obliged the people to apply a French civil status law, ho is considered an outsider to the culture and originality of the Algerian society, very firmly, which led to a great distortion of the naming system in the Algerian society in general and the society and the family of Tebessien people in particular, as well as the negative and profound effects that directly affected the identity and cohesion of the local community, this made the family of misunderstandings get lost in the maze of discrimination and it was difficult to define circles of belonging in the past and the present.
