The term interpretation in the Arab-Islamic culture constituted one of the prominent frameworks used in understanding religious texts, and it was one of the considered assets in the methods of Quranic interpretation, with precise and strict regulators.

It also formed in contemporary Arab culture one of the prominent foundations in reading and understanding texts.

Likewise, hermeneutics, in its Greek and modern origins, was one of the most prominent mechanisms, not only in understanding texts; Rather, in understanding the world.

The great development of this term in its connotation makes us go beyond the formal connotation of the word, and look at it through what it has acquired over time of new epistemological and philosophical implications.

Islamic interpretation can share some premises with hermeneutics, but it remains incompatible with this term, which carries many epistemological, methodological and semantic characteristics that distinguish it.

Therefore, this study digs archaeologically into the roots and extension of these two terms, and searches for the epistemological and cultural contexts that Formed within its scope, to know the nature of understanding through them.
