English Abstract

Uranium is naturally occurring, radioactive element.

Used as fuel in nuclear power plants.

Uranium contamination not limited to water pollution it exceeds to threat the human health, causing severe damage for the body.

Therefore, much research was performed to face this problem.

This study investigates the removal of uranyl (IV) ion by using impregnated siloxane Sol-Gel matrix (SG-dpm), in which dpm is diphenylmethan-1,3-dione.

The isothermal sorption and the optimum parameters are studied.

The pH effect, contact time, initial concentration and temperature effect are detected by the static batch experiments.

Adsorption kinetics are well-described by the pseudo-second order kinetics model (R = 1) at 55 °C, which more fitted than pseudo-first-order model.

The maximum percentage of capturing U (VI) ion is 98% at T = 25 °C, t = 120 minutes and Q = 10 mg L-1.

Solution pH= 6.5 has a great impact on the U(IV) ion adsorption.

The result of this study indicates that SG-dpm is good adsorbent candidates for uranyl removal.
