تعتبر الرحلة القمرية في السيرة المحمدية رحلة ذات طابع رسمي فرضتها اوضاع أمنية ارتبطت بالاحتلال الاسباني لوهران، فهي تؤرخ لأحداث تاريخية و تخلد سيرة الباي محم الكبير الذي يظهر من خلال الرحلة على انه تحصل على اجماع حول عظمة شخصيته، تتميز هذه الرحلة كونها رحلة جهادية قام بها الباي محمد الكبير.
و في هذا المقال سنتعرف على القيمة العلمية لهذه الرحلة كونها تؤرخ لمرحلة تحرير وهران من يد الاسبان، كما سنقف عند اسلوب بن زرفة في كتابة هذه الرحلة كونه انه اعتمد على ما شاهده بعينيه على ارض الواقع و ما حضره من احداث، و نجد في هذه الرحلة وصفا دقيقا لحالة الجنود واهم الملاحظات عليهم واهم المعيقات التي صادفتهم في هذه الرحلة، و تؤرخ هذه الرحلة الى العلاقة القوية و المتينة بين بن زرفة كاتب الباي و محمد باي وهران و دورهما في عملية تحرير وهران
