In order to ensure justice for the victims of human rights violations carried out by transnational corporations, which must bear the responsibility and accountability for such violations, and in the ence of an international mechanism likely to take legal responsibility, and regardless of the duty of states to protect individuals, the office of the United Nations high commission for human rights has started in recent years to highlight this issue.

It has created voluntary mechanisms to draw the line between business and human rights.

The most important of which are the guiding principles on business and human rights (2011) which represent the first global standard for preventing the violation of human rights by business activities.

It showed the steps that countries should take to enhance the respect of human rights by business activities, and provide the basis for corporations to manage the risks of violating human rights.

They also provide stakeholders with a range of criteria for evaluating business respect for human rights.
