In this study, we review an analysis of the most important changes that occurred in the concept of sovereignty after the great repercussions of globalization, which became more threatened than ever before, and its luster is fading until it is forced to change to contain the new international reality.

there for, we will discuss the problem of retreat or reconsideration of the concept of the nation-state, through two sections.

in the first, we discuss a central concept related to sovereignty, which is the concept of the nation-state and the early challenges it faces, especially with the radical transformations that the post-cold war world has known in the field of identity, privacy, multiple actors in the international system, and problems of governance quality.

in the second section, we analyze the developments that have occurred in the roles and objectives of the nation-state, from the term popular sovereignty (the management of the people) to legal sovereignty, then democratic sovereignty, to the most recent form of the state of care (welfare state), meaning the state that is watchful over the care of its members.
