Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to identify the effectiveness of a program based on the functional approach in developing the speaking skills of female Arabic-speaking learners at the intermediate level at the institute for teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages at umm al-Qura university in Makkah and their orientation towards it.

to achieve this goal, the researcher used the two approaches: descriptive and quasi-experimental based on the design of one group, and the researcher prepared a list of the necessary speaking skills for the female learners of Arabic speaking others, a note card of the students' performance in targeted speaking skills, a list of oral language communication positions, and a measure of the trend towards learning the Arabic language.

the sample of the study consisted of (12) studies of Arab-speaking women educated in other languages, chosen in a deliberate manner.

the results showed a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.01) between the mean scores of the study sample in the two applications, pre and post, in speaking skills and the trend towards learning the Arabic language in favor of the post application due to the use of the functional approach, and in light of these results the researcher presented a set of recommendations and suggested research.
