Abstract EN

This study aims to monitor the water resources along the land road connecting Damascus, Makkah and Madinah, through the written record about it in the Arab historical and geographical sources, in the Ayyubid era until the end of the Mamluk era.

because some of the features of this road changed later, and ponds, springs, wells digging and serving them in castles were introduced to save the road, with people specialized in fetching water and carrying it to accompanied by pilgrims were provided.

these constitutes a field for an independent study on the water conditions on the land route walked by pilgrims in the ottoman era.

the issue of availability of water on the hajj routes in general was one of the most important issues that troubled the pilgrims and those in charge of facilitating the hajj caravan, some fatal accidents resulted from the lack of water for pilgrims to drink and water their animals, and thus result to death among them.
