Abstract EN

This contribution aims to examine the evolution of values in the context of Algerian society as well as the negotiation that we find around these values in recent history in a country like Algeria and, by extension, in Muslim countries.

who share the cultural area of Islam.

this reflection is made on the basis of a whole literature produced on values, conceptual framework, as well as on empirical data from surveys that have been conducted on values.

several authors have emphasized the obvious that social change is taking place as a result of the industrialization of society and its interaction with western societies.

however, few studies have been carried out systematically on changes in values.

some authors, who have studied contexts other than that of Algerian society, have advanced the idea that economic and social change as well as the modernization of developing societies pass from a state where there is a break between the traditional values and modern values, and end up experiencing a convergence of these values and subsequently the decline of traditional values.

other authors argue the opposite, and put forward a theory of the persistence of traditional values, despite the changes brought about by economic development.
