Abstract EN

The present study takes into its account defining a new scientific approach within the linguistics of Arabic language which is “Forensic Linguistics”.

The initiatives of this field have been taken in use within the modern western linguistic studies in the 1970s of the twentieth century as initiated by Jan Svartvik’s studies and the establishment of the German Forensic Linguistics Association and other European countries.

This field is a branch of applied linguistics which provides the linguistic evidence for legal and judicial procedures and has an important role in scope of deduction works.

Then, this scientific approach has been widely developed by the western academia as the specialized courts calls for the forensic linguists to study their criminal cases and other relevant issues as well as provision of linguistic consultation, opinions and considering the results as an evidence to confirm or refute certain dispute.

Forensic linguistics has several sub-branches like : - Forensic Stylistics - Forensic Discourse Analysis - Forensic Phonetics - Forensic Dialectology - Forensic Pragmatics Despite of the plethora of the studies in the western academia in forensic linguistics, there are only a few articles and abbreviations posted on the internet in the Arabic linguistic studies.

Accordingly, the present study would be a foundational study to open the horizons of scientific research in the Iraqi and Arabic academia to a wider extent.

Our approach based on the translation of the western literature of studies including books, articles and research papers about the field of forensic linguistics.
