Abstract EN

This study aims at building a quantitative general abilities test and determining its relationship to performance.

The test is administered to a random sample of fourth-year middle school pupils in the city of M'sila (2020/2021).

The number of the sample is (206) male and female pupils selected out of a population of (328) learners.

The researcher used the descriptive approach to answering the questions of the study, using the following statistical methods: (arithmetic mean, deviation, criterion, ease and difficulty coefficients, discrimination, variance, correlation coefficient (Pearson), t-test for the difference of means, z-scores, and percentiles, The reliability coefficient is calculated by two methods (split-half and Kudor Richardson), peripheral comparison validity, construct validity, and confirmatory factor analysis.

The results of the study indicate that the test has acceptable psychometric properties, as it agrees with the characteristics of a good test when calculating: validity coefficients (internal consistency, factor analysis, and peripheral comparison), stability coefficients (half-split, Kuder Richardson), standard scores (Z, T, percentile) that were distributed in a normal, moderate distribution on the rationing sample, which means that the sample is fairly representative of the population from which it is selectedKey words: general mental capacity, quantitative comprehension, scholastic performance, confirmatory factor analysis
