Abstract EN

The study aims at determining the level of College of Science and Humanities in Durma female students’ awareness of the Visual literacy concept, its symbols used in education, the degree of achievement of its standards of competence by them and recognize the impact of variables of (female student specialization/number of university study years) in the awareness level of Visual literacy concept and its symbols used in education.

Also, in the achievement degree of some of visual literacy competence standards.

To achieve the study objectives, the survey descriptive approach is used and a sample consisting of (120) female students.

The researcher prepared two tools: A test of awareness of the Visual literacy concept and its symbols used in education, and a skill test according to selected standards of the International Visual literacy Association The study results revealed that the level of female students' awareness of the Visual literacy concept is very low, and the degree of achievement of some standards of Visual literacy competence by them is very low.

There is a statistically significant difference in the level of female students’ awareness of the Visual literacy concept, and the degree of achievement of some standards of Visual literacy competence by them is attributed to the variable of female student specialization for the female students with a Computer specialization.

The study recommended that the academic staff in universities are called to teach using images, mind maps, and Sketch noting.
