The current research aims to identify : 1.

positive illusions among middle school students.

2.

statistically significant differences in positive illusions among middle school students according to gender variables (males-females, and specialization (scientific-literary).

the current research was determined by students of the preparatory stage (sixth grade) in the center of al-Diwaniyah governorate and for specialization (scientific-literary), and for both sexes (male-female) for the academic year (2020-2021).

the research sample consisted of (400) male and female students chosen by the random stratified phased method, and from (11) schools of (5) males and (6) females.

the scale of positive illusions was built based on Taylor’s theory (1988), and the scale is based on three areas : (the unrealistic positive view of the self, the illusion of control, unrealistic optimism, and after completing the conditions of honesty and stability, it included (39) items distributed over its three dimensions.

data collection and statistical processing using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) the research reached the following results 1 that middle school students have positive illusions 2 there are no statistically significant differences in the degrees of positive illusions among middle school students according to the variables of gender (males-females), and specialization (scientific-literary).

3 there are no statistically significant differences in positive illusions according to the interaction of gender (males-females) with the academic specialization (scientific, literary).
