قام العديد من الفلاسفة والمفكرين بدراسة أسباب نشأة الدولة وظهورها ومفهومها وأشكالها والعديد من الجوانب المتعلقة بإشكالياتها المختلفة ومن أبرز من اهتم بدراسة هذا الموضوع الفيلسوف أرسطو في كتابه (السياسة) والفيلسوف أفلاطون والعديد من فلاسفة مدرسة العقد الاجتماعي، أما عربيا وإسلاميا فمن أبرز من اهتم بدراسة موضوع السياسة نجد العلامة أبو زيد عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن خلدون إضافة إلى الفارابي، وسنستعرض في هذا المقال نظرة ابن خلدون المتعلقة بالدولة من حيث تعريفها وأسباب نشأتها وأطوارها المختلفة مركزين على مصادر التنظير التي تميز بها بن خلدون عن سابقيه ما هو الجديد الذي قدمه هذا المفكر الفذ مقارنة بسابقيه، مع إبراز هذه الأفكار والنظريات حتى على مستويات الفكر السياسي المعاصر حاليا.

Many philosophers and thinkers have studied the reasons for the emergence of the state, its emergence, its concept, its forms, and many aspects related to its various problems, and among the most prominent ancient philosophers who were interested in studying this topic, we find philosopher Aristotle in his book (politics) and the philosopher Plato, and many philosophers of the school of the social contract, as for Arabs and Islamists, one of the most prominent people interested in studying the topic of politics, we find the scholar Abu Zayd Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad IBIN Khaldun in addition to al-Farabi.
