Abstract EN

The study aims to show whether the women's quota has a real role in limiting the weakness of women's political participation in the Iraqi elections.

In our research, we followed the method of comparative study between major constitutional models represented in the Iraqi constitution of 2005, the amended Egyptian constitution of 2014, and the French constitution of 1958, with a focus on the Iraqi experience in granting women an electoral presence.

Basic to Iraqi law.

The most important thing that has been reached is to make amendments to the election laws of Parliament and the governorates to include a text related to the women’s quota, that a list of their own, similar to the quota of minorities, is presented by each political entity participating in the elections, in addition to its regular list of mixed women and men according to the order mentioned in the election law.

And the amendment of Article 11 of the Parties Law No.

(36) of 2015 specifying a quota of no less than one-third of women’s representation in party leadership positions, to ensure women’s political empowerment, build their leadership and political capabilities, and qualify them to enter political life at all stages.
