Abstract EN

The subject of this article concerns the social security system, and to what extent it is affected by the rentier nature of the state.

The current social security system resulting from the 1983 law on the reform of social security, then its development in the light of the rentier crisis of the State during the 90s, to arrive, from the 2000s, to its transformation into a relatively rentier system, both for the beneficiaries, where the number of inactive insured exceeded the number of active insured, than in terms of financial regulation and increase in Treasury funding to limit the increase in the budget deficit.

As a result, it becomes obvious that the Algerian social security system is gradually transforming from a Bismarckian system based on the protection of workers and financed by their contributions to a populist system targeting the most of population and financed by rentier taxes
