تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إبراز أسباب تدهور التجارة الصحراوية بين الشمال الإفريقي و بلاد السودان خلال القرن 19 وبداية القرن 20 في أحد أهم الطرق التجارية، هو طريق السودان الأوسط الذي شهد من قبل انتعاش حركة تبادل السلع بين ثلاث أقاليم رئيسة هي بلاد السودان و بلاد المغارب و أوروبا؛ و لكن بداية من القرن 19 ظهرت مجموعة من العوائق البشرية و السياسية التي هددت أمن التجارة و أثرت سلبا على نشاط القوافل الصحراوية، بعض تلك التحديات كانت تقليدية و أخرى وهي الأصعب ارتبطت بتغير العلاقات الدولية لصالح القوى الاستعمارية الأوروبية.
ركزت الدراسة على التعريف بأهم حواضر طريق السودان الأوسط من الشمال إلى أواسط القارة الإفريقية فيما يعرف اليوم ببلاد غانا و نيجيريا، و لعل أهم تلك الحواضر هي: طرابلس و غدامس و غات و كانو؛ ثم تطرقت إلى العوامل الأمنية و السياسية المتحكمة في نشاطها التجاري، في منطقة شاسعة تتوزع فيها القبائل و ترتبط بممالك و كيانات سياسية متصارعة حينا و متحالفة أحيانا أخرى.
كما حاولت في هذه الورقة الكشف عن الدور السلبي للتدخل الأوروبي على أمن القوافل التجارية، ذلك التدخل الذي انتهى بالدول الاستعمارية إلى السيطرة على التجارة الصحراوية عبر عدة و سائل، و كانت النتيجة أن تراجع الدور التجاري و الحضاري لطريق السودان الأوسط كغيره من الطرق الرابطة بين حواضر الشمال الإفريقي و أقاليم و حواضر إفريقيا جنوب الصحراء، بعد أن تغيرت قواعد و أسس العلاقات الدولية في المنطقة لصالح قوى استعمارية إمبريالية أجنبية.

Abstract EN
This study aims to highlight the causes of deterioration of the desert caravan trade between North Africa and the countries of Sudan in nineteenth century and early if twentieth century in one if the most important trade routes, This road has witnessed – in particular- the boon of trade exchange between three main regions: the countries of Sudan and the countries of Maghreb and Europe, But at the beginning of the 19th century a number of human and political causes that threatened trade security and affected negatively on the activity of desert caravans.
This study also focuses on determining the the most important commercial cities on the central Sudan road, such us: .
tripoli (libya)- ghademes- ghate- Canu (in north nigeria), as well as revealing the controlling factors in its commercial activity and highlighting the role of European intervention in the deterioration of these cities.
Lately- the caravan trade throws the African desert became from memory after that the Colonial states share the large African desert and used the modern transportations instead of camels.
