Abstract EN

The present paper aims to shed light on Al-Munjed dictionary, by Louis Maalouf, one of the most distinguished, and widely used, modern school dictionaries in the Arab world.

We began the analysis with a brief presentation of the author's life and his major works.

Then, we proceeded to closely analyze the work in question, where upon we revealed the author's main reasons and motifs behind undertaking such a daunting task, the primary sources he had used in the process, and the methodology adopted as well.

Moreover, the study has revealed the author's subtle approach to the organization, explanation, and vocalization of each word, and how they are searched for in the dictionary.

Additionally, it has shown the different procedures Louis Maalouf had followed in order to simplify the use of Al-Munjed dictionary by beginners.

The study culminates with a thorough discussion of the work' strenghts and weaknesses
