After Italy’s defeat in World War II, the republican system was built according to complex circumstances due to the results and claims of defeat in the war and the conditions of the fascist rule that ruled political life in Italy from 1922 until 1945 year.

Italy entered a new era of democracy after the adoption of the effective constitution in 1948, where the parliamentary system was adopted and the adoption of party pluralism and direct elections, and Italy has suffered from serious political crises due to the conflict between parties and influential political forces, and one of the most prominent features that distinguishes the political scene in Italy is that Most governments are short-lived coalition governments, and perhaps the reason for this is the large number of political parties and movements and the divergence of their orientations and ideologies, and this was reflected in the nature of the electoral system, which was changed three times since the declaration of the republic, the latest of which was the adoption of the Rosatilum electoral system in late 2017.
