Abstract EN

This article aims to examine an essential element of the construction of the narrative text; Where it seeks to trace the structure of place in the novel "Ghosts of the Murdered City" by the Algerian writer "Bachir Mefti" and to reveal its tragic connotations, as the place in this text transcends the concept of the framework that includes events and characters into a space of a melancholic, afflictive character and of tragic connotations.

and it contributed - by describing the places and their impact on the characters within whom they interact and are affected by them, and through presenting the harsh and violent events - in creating a tragic sign of the place, which reflected the intellectual, ideological and psychological states of the characters, and thus they were a space for their collapse, psychological crisis and alienation, as well as their tragic end, whether the places were closed in their geometrical form such as (the house, the mosque, the prison) or open as (the city, the district, the street), which are the main places that the novel was abounded by more than any others varied spaces of the text, and they were also the most representative of the tragic and its embodiment in the text community, in addition to that it reflected a true image of what Algeria experienced in the years of the eighties and nineties of social transformations, political conflicts and then violent and bloody events, and therefore we elected them in our sociotextual approach.
