Although the Statute of the International Criminal Court does not contain provisions criminalizing or punishing direct attacks on the environment, it contained many legal provisions and provisions that provided for acts that could constitute an attack on the environment, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, and this intervention by the International Criminal Court in dealing with environmental crimes represents a positive expansion of its jurisdiction as environmental crimes are no less serious than other crimes that have already been committed.

It has been included in the court's jurisdiction, and through this research paper we aim to demonstrate the role played by the international criminal justice system in prosecuting, prosecuting and punishing perpetrators of international crimes that are harmful to the environment
