Abu al-Ala Al-Ma'arri was an artist who mastered both arts: prose and poetry. However, the intersection between the two literary types could, perhaps, be described as obvious. Due to Al-Ma'arri's admired rank of strength and popularity amongst the literary society, I have chosen the literary delivery techniques of Al-Ma'arri's Daliyah1 Poem as a prelude to this present study, alluded by the research I found on the poem, which is a lament about the death of Al-Faqih Al-Hanafi in order to approach the most important literary characteristics of both, his prose and poetry. Thus, I observed the previous literature, intellectual and linguistic, about Al-Ma'arri's work, for instance: Risālat Al-Ghufrān, Risālat Al-Sahi lwa Al-Shahij, and Al-Fuṣūl wa Al-Ghāyāt. In attempt to explore and reveal the similarities between Al-Ma'arri's prose and the poem, I approached it, along with the characteristics of these works, in its occasion, subject, linguistic and intellectual structure. The poem expresses grief about humanity and life miseries, wherein developed the kinship between his prose and the poem, which also shaped his intellect in form and meaning as comes later in the study and its findings.
