English Abstract

This research deals with the trends of illiteracy in Iraq and its regional neighborhood, aiming to study the causes and effects of illiteracy, and its trends in a comparative manner by indicating its rates, as well as the challenges facing this problem and its future prospects in order to become familiar with the image that the Iraqi society lives in compared to the surrounding countries, due to the importance of the problem of illiteracy that has become One of the challenges that the government faced in Iraq and the neighboring countries because of its negative repercussions on the Iraqi society and its regional environment, and that literacy will be important to achieve comprehensive development, and the research has reached high rates of illiteracy in Iraq compared to its regional neighborhood, as a result of the unstable conditions that Iraq has gone through.

And the failure of strategies, plans and programs that aim to reduce illiteracy rates, which is why government agencies concerned with combating illiteracy must define a concept of illiteracy that keeps pace with the times, which is taken as a basis for developing programs for literacy, and implementing decisions and laws related to compulsory education, training and qualification for teachers in adult education centers Providing a database, and getting acquainted with the experiences of neighboring countries in literacy and adult education And open areas of cooperation between them
