Iraq began its negotiations to join the World Trade Organization in 2004, but it took only the initial steps required for membership, and is currently one of the observer members of the organization.

Iraq's accession to the World Trade Organization will constitute a qualitative leap for the Iraqi economy and will contribute to boosting the trade movement in the country, in addition to increasing Iraq's chances of obtaining goods from solid global origins.

However, this accession is not easy as it requires a number of new legislative reforms that It allows the transition to the market economy to complete the accession files, and this accession also requires great and continuous tasks and efforts in all political, economic and social fields.
