Abstract EN

Zakat grass-roots committees has basic roles represented in determine the beneficiaries and delivering zakat to them, and secondary ones are in carrying out volunteer activities and this aspect was not subject to evaluation before.

Therefore, the paper aimed to evaluate the voluntary role of the base zakat grass-roots committees in Karary locality in the state of Khartoum as a model.

The study used a descriptive method.

The study population consist out of (279) committees, a systematic random sample of 30 committees selected.

Primary data collected by group interviews with committees members and by observations.The study reveals that Zakat grass-roots committees has a significant role to recruit funding for social activities out of Zakat spending channels to implement social, productive and Dawaa projects as well as to combat disasters and crises; conversely they have given their main focus on executive tasks related to assignment of deserved people so as to distribute Zakat among them.

The paper recommends the necessity of activating the voluntary social roles of these committees through the establishment of a special department in Zakat chamber to develop its plans, activities and capabilities in this field.
