Abstract EN

The study deals with the complete Arabic translation of the twenty-third edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification issued by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

It aims to identify its composition, features and aspects of its uniqueness from others, the stages of its translation and printing, the most important linguistic principles that it adopted, the problems it encountered, how to overcome them, the most important drawbacks that the researcher revealed in translation, and his suggestions for improving them.

Among the results of the study: That the translation does not contain any modifications related to the topics of Arab culture and identity that were included in previous translations of the system, which reduces the chances of their use in Arab libraries.

Also, the reasons for the delay in the emergence of translation vary between administrative and technical reasons, And that the translation was printed on the Pansoft system, the German agency approved for printing system translations in different languages, and that the printing operations had faced many challenges in the processes of entry and preservation, and that the translation was unique from previous translations as it was a complete institutional translation licensed and approved by the Library of Congress, and the first translation based on numbers Arabic instead of Hindi.
