This study aims at investigating the nature of commercial bank activity in Iraq in 2015 and its effect on the variables of economic activity.

The study seeks to start from the hypothesis that the role of commercial banks in Iraq is weak and affects the economy of the state.

The study reached the most important results.

The rate of the importance of bank capital to total local income is 5.3% the rate of investment and credit of the private sector to total local income with current prices are 6.8% and 9.4% respectively which is a small portion.

The most important recommendations proposed by the researcher are reevaluating funding policy instruments through balancing the income and risk to encourage credit funding orientation.

Regulating promissory credit and regulating its payments.

Also, adopting new models for funding infrastructure projects.
