Abstract EN

The current study was aimed to identify the psychometric characteristics of a developed scale designed to identify children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah as well as to investigate the views of teachers of ASD children on the performance criteria derived from the standardization of the ASD scale in the same city.

To achieve this objective, the descriptive analytical approach was used and a developed scale was designed to identify ASD children in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

The study population consisted of teachers of the 246 ASD students in the primary stage in Makkah.

The study which was applied to a purposive sample of (202) teachers reached a set of results, most notably the following: The developed scale designed to identify ASD children in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah met the basic psychometric requirements for standardization in terms of validity of the application.

The general correlation of the scale was (0.876), which indicated a high degree of validity.

The developed scale designed to identify ASD children in the city of Makkah Al- Mukarramah met the basic psychometric requirements for standardization in terms of reliability, as the general reliability coefficient of the scale was (0.978) using the Alpha Cronbach method and (0.947) when applying the split-half method; both values represent high-reliability coefficients.

Accordingly, the scale proved to have a high degree of reliability and can be relied upon in the field application of the study.

The results indicated that teachers of ASD children at the primary stage in the city of Makkah believe that the performance criteria derived from the standardization of the ASD scale in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah are sometimes observed among ASD children there, where lack of communication and social interaction comes first, followed by specific behavioural patterns (mean = 2.69.
