Abstract EN

The study aimed to find out the effect of desert encroachment on the Al-Rawakib Valley area in western Omdurman.

The descriptive analytical approach was followed, and the study population is made up of the area’s residents.

The sample was selected through a simple random sample of (100) residents of Wadi al-Rawakib, who were inside the area at the time of the study, during the period of using the questionnaire to provide information.

After analyzing and interpreting the results, the results showed that the region suffers from a deterioration in its natural resources such as vegetation cover, soil, water, and biodiversity.

The region has also witnessed a transformation in rural economic systems represented by changing economic conditions, which are the deterioration of rural production, food insecurity, reduced income and widespread poverty.

Changing social conditions, the most important of which are migration to cities, deterioration of services, and changes in social relations.

The decline in production in the agricultural and pastoral sectors, which pushed many residents of the region to move towardswage work, leaving their original occupations and working in the informal economic sector.

And support the efforts of the local community in protecting these resources by training and encouraging members of the local community to establish popular nurseries, spread the idea, work to restore vegetation cover, and put in place laws that preserve the environment and protect natural resources.

Establishing systems to secure food and sustainable irrigation for both crops and livestock, including storage and marketing of their sources of income in the event that their lands are affected by desert encroachment Programs to teach appropriate agricultural methods and sustainable management of natural resources Developing the capabilities of scientific research and training in the country in the fields of desert encroachment and drought, giving interest to farmers and herders and giving them the opportunity to express their priorities and include them in development programs.
