Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify the degree of suitability of the university environment for handicappedstudents (motor, hearing and visual) in the Jordanian public and private universities and their relationship to the level of academic withdrawal.

the study was based on descriptive analytical and correlative approach.

in order to achieve the objective of the study, (1) a scale of the suitability of the university environment for handicappedstudents was developed and it included the following fields: (academic problems, administrative problems, social problems, environmental problems, and transport and transportation problems); (2) academic withdrawal scale was developed and it included the following fields: (academic field, psychological and social field, and the economic field).

the study sample consisted of (250) handicappedstudents in jordanian universities (al yarmouk university, Jordan university, al al-bayt university, irbid national university, Jadara University, Amman Arab University, al- Balqa' University, Jordan University of science and technology).

the results showed that the degree of the suitability of the university environment to handicappedstudents in Jordanian universities was medium, and the level of academic withdrawal of handicappedstudents in Jordanian universities was medium.

the results indicated that there is a reverse correlation between academic withdrawal from the university among handicappedstudents in Jordanian universities and the university environment.

in the light of the results of the study, the researcher recommends that the university should seek to remove all the psychological, social, economic and academic factors which may lead handicappedstudents to withdraw from the university.
