Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the conditions of kindergartens buildings in Khartoum to assess the required design standards in its environment.

It also aims to develop design standards for a safe educational environment for kindergartens based on international and Sudanese specifications and requirements for kindergarten buildings in general and in the city of Khartoum in specific.

The study initially identified several interior design problems in kindergartens related to the safety of children.

The study followed the descriptive approach to collect information about kindergartens and classify them in terms of availability of safety standards, and therefore analyzed the data for a random sample of both public and private kindergartens in Khartoum to reach the results on which a model Kindergarten was redesigned accordingly.

The main findings of the study indicate the lack of many interior design safety standards in Khartoum kindergartens.

recommendations call for developing interior safety standards by the local authorities binding on all owners of kindergartens in order to ensure the availability of a safe internal environment that satisfy the objectives of pre-school education in Sudan efficiently.
