Abstract EN

The research deals with the issue of decency among women through Arabic poetry in the pre- Islamic period and the beginning of the emergence of Islam.

It appreciates the historical value it provides, which would help historians draw the features of life and the foundations of civilization for that era, and thus adopting it in all related issues of investigation and editing.

The use of poetry is not limited to its artistic and aesthetic value, or to preserve the language, but also in its historical value.

Not only have Linguists benefited from poetry to show eloquence and build grammar, historians have also benefited from it in questioning the order of events that took place at that era.

In this research, we present another form of benefiting from poetry by releasing the issue of how much it is permissible for a man to see from a foreign woman if he intends to marry her and he thinks it most likely that he will accept his marriage from her.

As the understanding of the texts depends on knowing the prevailing custom at that time, in what can appear from the woman in the habit if the eyes of men are safe, which is illustrated by the poems of the Arabs in the pre-Islamic period and the beginning of the emergence of Islam.
