This research examines the history of the development of treatment with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing(EMDR)from Dr.

Francine Shapiro's original discovery in 1987, to current results and future trends in research and clinical practice.

The research provides an overview of important milestones in EMDR's development over the first 20 years, including key events, research, scientific publications, meta-analysis, and humanitarian efforts.

The research also describes the Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP), the theoretical basis for desensitization and reprocessing therapy, addressing the issue of mechanisms of action and emdr's specific contribution to psychotherapy.

It explains that desensitization and reprocessing is an integrative psychotherapy that addresses inactively stored memories as an essential element for the development of pathological psychology, through its memory outlook, which integrates sensory, cognitive, emotional and physical information into its nature, and scientifically explains the mechanism of action in the brain while comparing it to experiments on animals, and presents current research based primarily on quantitative studies that the neurobasis of emdr is to remove tension from the memory clips of fear in the cerebral amyloidosis during the excitability of the brain condition.
