Abstract EN

This study aims at investigating the colors in Azzouqa’s work “Black Ice” and their aesthetic and symbolic aspects, their ability to carry a variety of indications and meanings, and their impact on the psyche of the characters.

The study shows a number of colors which shapes the overall narrative textual structure: red, black, white, blond and gray let alone their symbolic meaning as : darkness and clouds.

It also shows colors appearing less frequently in the novel.

Colors in the context of the novel gain crucial importance due to their effect on strengthening the meaning and reducing redundancy in the text.

On several occasions, it became a technique upon which the novel is based.

For this reason, the novelist chose the colors very carefully since each color has its own indication, implication and aim in the cultural heritage.

In this novel, colors gained new and various indications based on their context.

The study tried to answer such questions as : How did the novelist employ colors in his novel? Which one(s) was/were more prevailing? What is the potential interpretation thereof? The study relies on the semiotic approach in the text analysis and revealing its colors implications because of its ability to uncover them and interpret the relations in between, different implications as well as concealed meanings and associations.
